Don is Founder and President, Free Wheelchair Mission. He is a biomedical engineer, receiving an undergraduate degree from Columbia University and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. In the early part of the last decade, Don turned his MIT-developed engineering talents to solving the problem of immobility in developing nations. Committed to providing an innovative solution to a pressing problem, he devised a low-cost, high-durability wheelchair made from a resin lawn chair, metal tubing, and bicycle tires dubbed the GEN_1. In 2010, Don introduced the GEN_2 wheelchair, designed to be a more adaptable version of its predecessor. These devices meet a need for mobility that is currently felt by over 100 million people with disabilities throughout the developing world. He continues to press onward, desiring to see thousands more provided with the dignity, independence and hope that a wheelchair given in Jesus' name can offer.
